Anomalous Incident (2008):

Summary/Notes: This is a rather abstract sci-fi music video. The background I had in mind is that there is an orbiting fusion power station of some sort (or possibly just an orbiting space station with a different primary function, which just happens to be powered by a fusion reactor). Anyway some unknown alien form of life (perhaps energy based and attracted by the power output) pays the station an unexpected visit.

I used POVRay to generate the frames (as I generally do for this sort of video). This is the first video for which I used POVRay's "radiosity" feature. Basically the idea with radiosity is that it produces better looking results at the cost of longer computation times. I think the results do look better, although not dramatically so, compared to the earlier, non-radiosity, renderings I did. Render times were definitely longer, but not as much so as I thought might be the case. I can't really say for sure how much longer as I was also adding and changing other aspects when I added radiosity. My vague impression is that it might have increased render times by a factor of two or so.
